Frequently Asked Questions

Fairy hair has many names: hair tinsel, glitter strands, silk extensions, etc. It comes in a wide range of colors and is tied into the hair to add sparkle. It is a great alternative for anyone who wants to bring color into their hair without damage. Think of it as hair jewelry!

I recommend being gentle while brushing your hair. Hold your hair at the top and brush below your hand. Once all the knots are out you can brush at the scalp a few times.

That depends on your hair. Everyone has different shedding patterns so it is dependent on the individual. Some strands only last a few days while others can last months or even past a year. Since each strand is attached to a single strand of hair, when it is that piece of hair’s turn to fall out then the fairy hair goes with it. Also, brushing “gently” and starting at the bottom of the hair and working your way up can also help keep from ripping the fairy hair out. It is not uncommon to see a few strands fall out early on so for this reason I always put in a few extra.

Fairy hair is placed onto a single strand of hair. I use my “special wand” to tie it on the hair. There is no glue, heat, beads or damage to the hair.

Nope. Your hair just needs to be long enough for me to be able to tie in the strands. Flat, curly, thick or thin, all hair types are fairy hair friendly.

Yes! You can do anything with your fairy hair that you would do to your regular hair. You can dye it, flat iron it, wash it, blow dry it and curl it. It can even withstand bleaching, dying and perming. You may notice that after multiple treatments or even with time the color of the strand may fade and turn silver. This is normal and happens to the best of us as we age.

There is no age requirement. However, your child needs to be able to sit on a stool by themselves and be relatively still during the process, as moving heads can make it more challenging to put in the strands. Also, keep in mind that since children have hair follicles that are not yet mature and they often play/pull on their hair, the strands may not last as long as they would in adult hair.

I usually like to recommend at least 30 strands for virgin hair. That allows me to put enough strands around the entire head. It also gives a good amount of shine. Bookings for 10 or 20 strands is good for maintenance appointments where you still have some strands left but need a refresh.

Ideally your hair should be clean, dry and product free. Hair should also be recently brushed so that there are no tangles and all that loose hair ready to shed is gone. This allows for strong hairs to be used and gives you the best chance of having less strands fall out. If you have hair that is not brushable while dry (aka curly hair) that is fine just come as you are!

While I love for everyone to have sparkle, I understand there are circumstances where the fairy hair needs to be removed. All you need to do is simply pull the piece of fairy hair close to your root and it will be removed (along with the piece of hair it was tied to).
